Restorative Restorative dentistry is the restoration of dentition (teeth) with material other than natural tooth structure. Examples are porcelain inlays and onlays, porcelain crowns, porcelain/gold hybrids, and all gold restorations. Restorative dentistry is for people who need limited amounts of dental care and are not interested in cosmetics or reconstructions. Some people just need a small cavity filled or a tooth crowned. Most of what we see on TV called ''Cosmetic Dentistry'' is not actually cosmetic, as it involves some sort of disease process being treated. What we see in most cases is actually ''Reconstructive Dentistry.'' Reconstructive dentistry is the restoration of form and function that was somehow lost to decay, disease, trauma, etc. As cosmetic dentists, we use cosmetic materials and techniques in the process and thus we reconstruct the mouth, smile and bite cosmetically! |
